In compliance with the Ontario Food Premises Regulation, Section 32 states: “Every operator of a food service premises shall ensure that there is at least one food handler or supervisor on the premises who has completed food handler training during every hour in which the premises is operating.”

This requirement means:

  • A food handler or supervisor with a valid food handlers certificate must be on site at all times that the businesses is operating (not just the hours you are open to the public, but also any time you prepare food).

  • You likely will need to have more than one food handler or supervisor certified to ensure coverage of all shifts.

  • Proof of certification must be available on site for your public health inspector to review.

  • This requirement is an important strategy to ensure food is handled safely, and non- compliance is considered a critical infraction.

  • A public health inspector may issue a ticket with a set fine of $305.00, if during the inspection this requirement is not met.

Rockport Barn Events Inc. has achieved the necessary certification in food handling, so is required by law to supervise the preparation and serving of food during your event if you are catering the event yourself. If you hire a caterer who does not comply with this regulation, you will be liable for the fine if/when inspected by an official.
